In Villa Celiera, on the eastern side of the Gran Sasso in Abruzzo, is Lammidia, a small natural winery 700 meters above sea level. Davide Gentile and Marco Giuliani are two lifelong friends who started making wine together in 2010. They have 2ha and another small vineyard where they experiment with permaculture techniques. Their slogan: "uva e basta!” (grapes and that’s it).

Lammidia is a small-scale project; an idyllic farm near the Adriatic coast with organically grown Montepulciano, Trebbiano d’Abruzzo, Pinot Noir, and Barbera. Their non-interventionist attitude starts in the vineyard and extends all the way to bottling. There's no tilling, all cut plant matter gets left behind to serve as mulch and in the cellar they use only native yeast. Nothing is fined or filtered.
At harvest, the grapes are picked, de-stemmed and pressed(!!) by hand. Davide and Marco designed and built the concrete tanks and amphorae that they employ, with some steel and fiberglass containers in play, too. At Lammidia, there is no technology, no chemicals, no fancy tricks; just grapes and a few hands getting dirty. The finished wines are always low in alcohol and super fresh.

Trebbiano, Pecorino, Chardonnay, Traminer
A blend of 2020 cuvées, spontaneous fermentation with Trebbiano must and indigenous yeasts. A cacophony of orchard fruits with a hint of the tropics! Peaches, pears and citrus. Lip smack'n and a lot of fun to imbibe! Round robust bubbles with some grip on the finish. 10.5% abv.

100% Skin-Macerated Trebbiano d'Abruzzo
Macerated with its skins overnight and aged in stainless steel and fiberglass. Lively with notes of tropical fruit, orange creamsicle and wet cement. Perfect for anytime drinking, as an aperitivo or with some rosemary focaccia. 10% abv.

100% Skin-Macerated Pecorino d'Abruzzo. (one week skin contact)
Half of the grapes are direct pressed; the other half macerated in cement for a week, then aged in fiberglass. Stuffed to the brim with every fruit imaginable (peach, pineapple, papaya). Floral notes of lavender & violets. Sip it, smash it, it's delicious! 9.5% abv.

100% Skin-Macerated Trebbiano d'Abruzzo
Spontaneously fermented with indigenous yeasts. Macerated on the skins with a submerged cap for a week and aged 10 months in amphora. A gastronomical wine with exceptional drinkability as usual, but with increased complexity and an extremely long finish. Honey, melon, grass, pine resin, and yeasty notes with a fresh bit of funk! 10.5% abv.

50% Moscato Bianco 50% Montepulciano
The Moscato undergoes a night of skin contact whereas the Montepulciano goes directly to the press. Floral and fruity on the nose - like biting into a ripe nectarine on that first sip! Pink guava juice, heady and juicy. 10.5% abv.

Mostly Montepulciano d'Abruzzo with a touch of Trebbiano.
Lots of barnyard on the nose, underripe red fruit, cranberry, mushroom and lots of acid. A touch of brett. A wine from another time. Italy before Gucci. Taverna wine. Serve slightly chilled. 11% abv.

Field Blend
Late harvest grapes from a 50-year old vineyard, now eradicated; Flamingo is a mix of more than 10 different varieties, including whites and reds. Half-carbonic maceration, 3 days skin contact, aged in fiberglass. Light red? Dark Rosé? You decide! 9% abv.

100% Montepulciano of Abruzzo
A Montepulciano stripped of all its power, extraction and intensity in favor of a graceful, floral, joyful wine. There are new perfumes, colors and sensations; a freshness, lightness and drinkability that are difficult to associate with this grape. Blind, you could confuse it with a Pinot Noir!
